On January 28, 2022 the Supreme Court of the State of New York Appellate Division, Fourth Department agreed with Brian Shiffrin’s appeal on behalf of his client Matthew Ringrose. The Fourth Department agreed with Brian’s arguments and reversed the Monroe County Court decision and vacated the prior plea. Brian argued that when the client plead guilty in Monroe County, but then had his sentenced lowered from another jurisdiction, he lost the benefit of the plea deal. Brian was able to achieve victorious appeals from both jurisdictions and reduced the 14 to 24 year prison term from the other jurisdiction down to four years. The appellate court agreed with Brian that his client lost the benefit of the Monroe County plea deal and the conviction should be vacated.
