ETKS representation helps client avoid deportation

Bill Easton and Brian Shiffrin successfully represented a woman who had a deportation warrant due to her conviction, following a guilty plea, to felony assault.  First, they successfully moved to reinstate her dismissed appeal. Then, on appeal, the Appellate Division agreed that she had not been properly informed of the immigration consequences of the plea. That decision led to the vacating of the conviction and a plea to a misdemeanor for which she does not face deportation.
